Exhibition catalog of “VideoArt Festival Locarno: a Prospective” organized by ECAL / François Bovier, Adeena Mey, Maud Pollien from August 8 to October 20, 2019, Centro culturale e museo Elisarion, Minusio.
The bilingual catalogue (EN+IT) documents the exhibition held at the Elisarion Museum offering a new approach to the history of the VideoArt Festival Locarno, selecting videotapes and installations from its first editions, updating the spirit of Monte Verità and its avant-garde and utopian experiments. The works of international artists are presented alongside the festival archives and a circular painting by Elisàr Von Kupffer, historically inscribed in the architecture of the venue. Divided into two parts, the first is an essay by Lorenzo Bianda retracing the history of the festival, while the curators of the exhibition present the issues at stake. In the second, the exhibits are described and analysed.
